VDAF · A Lavante architecture methodology

This diagram describes the framework. Customer-specific roles and users are managed in the secure VDAF portal.

Reuse what works. Focus on what matters.

Many ingredients of effective architecture practices are similar across organisations. VDAF helps teams avoid starting from scratch: select proven components, align them with existing practices and apply them to agreed challenges. It complements established architecture methods and standards.

What does Value Driven Architecture mean in practice?

Value Driven Architecture starts with the outcomes the organisation wants to achieve. Architecture is used to understand what must change, compare options, guide investment and delivery decisions, and assess whether the expected business value is being realised. Technical quality and governance remain important, but they serve agreed business objectives rather than becoming ends in themselves.

01

Start with business outcomes

Agree on the strategic objectives, stakeholders and observable improvements that matter.

02

Understand capabilities and constraints

Assess business capabilities, processes, information, applications, technology and their dependencies to identify where change is needed.

03

Make value-informed decisions

Compare architectural options against expected benefits, costs, risks, feasibility and long-term consequences. Prioritise initiatives and define an actionable roadmap.

04

Measure and adapt

Agree meaningful indicators, review results with stakeholders and adjust architectural priorities when evidence or business needs change.

An example in practice

If a business wants to reduce customer onboarding time, VDAF helps identify the capabilities and application dependencies causing delays, evaluate solution options and define a phased improvement roadmap. Success is then assessed against outcomes such as onboarding time, quality and operating effort—not simply whether a new system was implemented.

How VDAF helps

VDAF accelerates this approach with reusable governance and management processes, architecture artefacts, guidance papers and assessment templates. A short Discovery & Alignment workshop identifies which components are relevant; consulting guidance then helps tailor them to the organisation and agree activities, deliverables and responsibilities.
