Roles & Responsibilities

Clear accountability and decision authority

Roles are independent of job titles. VDAF provides reusable role descriptions, responsibility models and governance arrangements.

Role definitions

Possible roles include Enterprise Architect, Business Architect, Domain Architect, Solution Architect, Architecture Governance Lead, Architecture Board Member, Business Owner and Technology Owner.

Decision authority

Define who proposes, advises, reviews, approves, records and escalates architectural decisions and exceptions.

RACI and collaboration

Assign accountability for activities, ceremonies, decision gates and deliverables through a RACI matrix.

Tailoring

One person may fulfil multiple roles. Avoid overlapping mandates and align roles with the operating model.
