1. Our Approach to Responsible AI

Lavante uses AI to improve productivity, accelerate technical research, assist with documentation and support software engineering. Architectural analysis, methodology development, professional judgement and governance principles originate from Lavante’s human expertise and established architecture practice. AI supports, rather than replaces, professional accountability. Adoption is progressive and risk-based.

2. How AI Contributes to VDAF

The conceptual foundation, architectural principles, methodology and governance approach of VDAF originate from Lavante’s human expertise. AI selectively supports documentation, software engineering, automated testing, technical research and quality assurance. Lavante reviews results and retains responsibility for decisions and acceptance. The VDAF Portal does not currently use AI to process, analyse or generate outputs from customer-specific data. AI-assisted development activities are separate from customer data processing within the portal. Any future AI capability involving customer data will undergo a formal privacy, security, governance and contractual review before activation.

3. Human Oversight and Accountability

AI may support documentation, engineering and recommendations, but architecture, governance, security and production decisions require appropriate human authorization. Lavante emphasizes assigned responsibilities, professional validation, risk-based review, explicit approval of sensitive changes and traceability. AI does not independently exercise governance authority or replace customer decision-making.

4. Privacy and Information Protection

The VDAF Portal does not currently use artificial intelligence to process, analyse or generate outputs from customer-specific data. Lavante’s internal AI-assisted software development, technical research, documentation and quality assurance are separate from processing customer information within the portal. If future AI functionality involving customer data is considered, it must first undergo formal assessment of GDPR and privacy obligations, confidentiality and contracts, data classification, authorization and tenant isolation, AI provider data handling and retention, security safeguards, transparency and human oversight. Necessary technical, organizational and contractual safeguards must be established before activation. Such functionality is not currently part of the operational VDAF Portal offering.

5. Quality Assurance and Traceability

AI outputs may contain inaccuracies, omissions or vulnerabilities. Proportionate assurance may include professional review, validation against architecture standards, source review, automated tests, security scans, verification of references, architecture decision records and formal release approval. AI-generated content is never authoritative solely because it was generated by AI.

6. Progressive and Governed AI Adoption

Lavante follows a structured lifecycle: identify opportunities and measurable benefits; assess suitability, data sensitivity and risks; define responsibilities and controls; implement in controlled stages; validate outcomes; and monitor and improve. Customer-facing AI functionality requires appropriate architecture, privacy and security assessment.

7. The Lavante Responsible AI & Digital Trust Framework

The Lavante Responsible AI & Digital Trust Framework provides a structured approach to introducing, governing and improving AI use. It combines Trust & Transparency, AI Governance & Assurance, and Technical AI Trust Controls. The lifecycle is Identify, Assess, Design, Implement, Verify, and Monitor & Improve. Technical controls for potential future portal AI include identity and access management, tenant isolation, data minimization, controlled model interactions, audit logging, monitoring and human intervention. The VDAF Portal does not currently use AI to process customer-specific data; these technical controls describe a future architectural direction, not currently active AI functionality. Any proposal to enable such processing requires a prior formal privacy, security, governance and contractual review and appropriate authorization. Human expertise defines the architecture; AI supports its efficient realization.

8. Regulatory Alignment and Recognized Frameworks

Lavante considers applicable GDPR, EU AI Act, contractual and confidentiality obligations. ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework are useful references for proportionate governance. References do not imply certification or independently verified compliance. Obligations depend on the AI use case and its intended purpose and risk classification.

9. Continuous Improvement and Our Commitment

Lavante aims to reassess AI uses and controls periodically, retain human accountability, protect confidential information, apply appropriate verification, introduce AI progressively and transparently, and use the governance discipline advocated through VDAF in its own work.
